The link between animal health and climate change: not simple.

In this Letter to the Scientific Journal Trends in Ecology and Evolution, co-authored with Prof Eric Morgan and Prof Ilias Kyriazakis ( #Queen's University of Belfast), and in a response to an opinion by Prof. Vanessa Ezenwa et al. (#University of Georgia), we reflected further on how we can assess the impact of animal health on GHG emissions from livestock. As pointed out by Ezenwa et al., poor animal health may lead to undesired increased GHG emission from livestock and exacerbate climate change. In turn climate change may increase the burden of many parasitic, vectorborne and other diseases. But it's a long way before we can actually understand and quantify these relationships.
